Rami Malek Opens Up About Bryan Singer Allegations & Says Working With The Director "Was Not Pleasant"

The stories surrounding “Bohemian Rhapsody” nowadays are less about the content of the film, including star Rami Malek’s great performance, but instead, focused on the life (and alleged crimes) of director Bryan Singer. The filmmaker has been accused multiple times of sexual assault against underage boys, and those allegations have seriously hindered the Oscar chances of the Queen biopic. And finally, after staying quiet for months, Malek is speaking out about his rough time working with Singer.

You may remember Malek’s first comments in regards to the recent Singer sexual assault controversy. He spoke initially and claimed to have no knowledge of the director’s past before signing on to ‘Rhapsody.’ And in reports dating back months, it’s alleged that Rami Malek and Singer had nothing but a contentious production, including a reported altercation that involved the director throwing a piece of filming equipment.

In new comments made to THR, Malek discusses the latest accusations against Singer, and finally comments on his time with the director. Speaking about the current accusations, Malek doesn’t shed light on his personal knowledge of anything involving Singer. Instead, the Oscar-nominated actor talks about his sympathy for the victims.

“My heart goes out to anyone who has to live through anything like what I’ve heard and what is out there,” Malek said. “It’s awful, it’s remarkable that this happens, I can appreciate so much what they’ve been through and how difficult this must be for them. In the light of the #MeToo era that this somehow seems to exist after that, it’s a horrible thing.”

He then transitioned into talking about his own interactions with the controversial director. “I’ve sat here and talked about how everyone deserves a voice and anyone who wants to talk about what happened with Bryan deserves to have their voice heard,” Malek said. “In my situation with Bryan, it was not pleasant, not at all. And that’s about what I can say about it at this point.”

Obviously, there’s more to this story and it’ll probably take years for it all to come out. However, with each passing week, as Malek separates himself from Singer, we’re learning more and more about their time on set. And it definitely does not sound pleasant.
