Is there an art to revenge? “Ballerina” exists in the “John Wick” universe, taking place around the time of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.” The new Lionsgate film sees Eve Macarro in the midst of becoming an assassin. She briefly appeared in ‘Chapter 3’ — offering a graceful interpretation of “The Nutcracker.” Director Len Wiseman, along with screenwriter Shay Hatten, crafted this upcoming action film about beauty, death, and the dance between it all.

Ana de Armas portrays the formidable assassin in training. Unity Phelan, an accomplished ballet dancer, previously played the character. Armas is a striking choice to take over as Macarro. Her previous films include the James Bond title “No Time to Die” and “Knives Out.” The actress briefly spoke about “Ballerina” during the Toronto International Film Festival. “It’s dangerous, it’s sexy, it’s very John Wick,” Armas told Collider. “I think people are going to be surprised. I’m biased. Of course, I like the movie, but I think it’s really cool. It’s going to be amazing.”
The film features familiar faces as well as newcomers to the franchise. Lance Reddick is among those returning favorites from the ‘Wick’ film series. Sadly, this is one of the acclaimed actor’s final performances after passing in 2023. Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus also star in “Ballerina” — with “John Wick” franchise actors Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Keanu Reeves making appearances.

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.
