‘The Brave & The Bold’: Director Andy Muschietti Is The “Top Choice” To Tackle New DC Studios Batman Film

James Gunn and Peter Safran have been given the keys to the newly formed DC Studios. And the duo has already assembling the first wave of theatrical projects for the rebooted DCU, with Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” (currently deep in the casting process) leading the charge. Another project of note in the pipeline comes from James Mangold (“Logan“), who will write, and possibly direct, a new feature film reboot of the supernatural hero “Swamp Thing.” As for Batman films? The first one in development set directly in the main DCU is “The Brave & The Bold.” The project sees Bruce Wayne partner up with his young son Damian Wayne as he dons the Robin mantle, giving us a father and son dynamic with the Caped Crusader that we really haven’t seen on the big screen before.

And now movie fans finally have an idea of who will potentially direct the DCU incarnation of the Dark Knight. In a recent article, The Hollywood Reporter backs up a claim from OneTakeNews earlier this week that Andy Muschietti is indeed the studio’s “top choice” to direct “The Brave & The Bold” for DC Studios. Although, it doesn’t sound like any script writing will be happening until after the current writer’s strike. That likely means actual production is much further in the future than other things in the works at the studio.

“Even if Miller’s future with DC is an open question, Muschietti’s doesn’t appear to be. He is the top choice to direct the Batman feature “The Brave and the Bold,” multiple sources tell THR, though there is no script — and thus no formal commitment from the filmmaker — until one materializes post-writers strike,” THR said in a recent piece detailing Ezra Miller‘s limited press promotion for “The Flash.”

This news comes after Muschietti delivered the ambitious DCEU film “The Flash” (a take on the Flashpoint story from the comics), which finally hits theaters later this month. Muschietti’s other recent work includes two installments of “IT,” with a prequel series to films called “Welcome To Derry” currently on the way at Max. But without a script even started, it’s hard to predict when Warners will release “The Brave & The Bold”; likely after “Welcome To Derry.” However, for promotional purposes, it would be wise to distance it from Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman Part II” (coming in October 2025), as Robert Pattinson‘s Bruce Wayne isn’t expected to lead a new DCU adventure; so audiences may appreciate some breathing room between two Batman films.
