While it wasn’t a commercial for the sequel, per se, during the Oscars ceremony this past weekend, there was a mini “Beetlejuice” reunion as co-stars Michael Keaton and Catharine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”) presented together for Best Makeup and Hairstyling; a category their film won back in 1989. The duo are also part of the cast of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice 2,” and Keaton was raving about the sequel when he spoke with SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” this week.
While actors are known to praise their upcoming projects, Keaton came off as genuine about his reaction to seeing a version of the new horror comedy, describing the sequel as “really beautiful” and “interestingly emotional.” via Variety.

“I’ve seen it now. I’m going to see it again after a couple of little tweaks in the editing room, and I confidently say this thing is great,” Keaton told Cagle after viewing a cut of the film. “The [original] was so fun and exciting visually. [The sequel is] all that but really beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that. It’s great.”
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” will still undergo further edits, as mentioned by Keaton, but it sounds like things will be ready to go when the pic hits theaters in the late summer.
It’s been a considerable journey to get to this point as a “Beetlejuice” sequel has been in the works for decades, with one version from 1990, “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian” being penned by British playwright Jonathan Gems. Ultimately, this final version took nearly 35 years to come together.
Warner Bros. has set the “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” release date for September 6, 2024, and we’re still waiting on a first-look trailer as we eagerly await our return to the Netherworld, a world of ghosts in the afterlife. The supporting cast includes O’Hara, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.
