Got a Tip?

Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Will Reunite In Joe Carnahan’s Crime Thriller ‘RIP’

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon effectively launched their career together in “Good Will Hunting,” the movie in which they won an Academy Award for Original Screenplay. While they’ve plotted dozens of reunions over the years, none ever really happened, and it took Ridley Scott and a writing collaboration on “The Last Duel” for the pair to finally unite on screen in 2021. But since then, the pair have formed a new company called Artists Equity, almost as an excuse to work together— their first film was “Air” in 2023— and according to Deadline, they have a new project on the way called “RIP.

According to the trade, Affleck and Damon will co-star together in this thriller for director Joe Carnahan, known for “The Grey” (2011) and “Smokin’ Aces” (2006).

Actual details on the film are under wraps, but “RIP” is said to be a crime thriller that would fit nicely into Carnahan’s wheelhouse given additional films like “Boss Level” and “Narc.”

While Artists Equity wouldn’t comment, the film is apparently gearing up to shoot this fall, which would probably mean we could see it arrive sometime in 2025. No distributor is attached yet, but interest has been drawn from theatrical and streaming buyers, so the project is expected to find one soon.

Artists Equity launched in 2022 with “Air” and has since produced the documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” for Amazon MGM Studios and “Small Things Like These,” starring Cillian Murphy, which premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for supporting actress Emily Watson.

Affleck and Damon apparently tried to make another crime thriller, “Animals,” earlier this year. Still, scheduling with the Affleck-starring “The Accountant 2” (which has wrapped production) couldn’t be worked out, and that project was paused. [Deadline]
