Got a Tip?

Benicio del Toro Says He Took ‘Wolfman’ Role To Shed Himself Of ‘Che’

If you’re like us, you scratched your head and went, “huh?,” when it was announced that Benicio del Toro was following up his role as Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” with that of the role of the “The Wolf Man” in Joe Johnston’s comic-con friendly monster film.

Well, dude has a pretty logical explanation and he told Time Out New York this past week that basically: sometimes you need to take something lighter to unwind off a heavy project; it makes total sense.

Wasn’t it strange going from playing a Marxist rebel to playing a werewolf?
Benicio Del Toro: “It was a way of shedding Che. Being pretty much on the tails of a role like that, that’s when you want to burn the oil, you know? You step on the gas and just say fuck it and go on to the other movie. That they’re completely different movies I think is maybe healthy for me. I could be completely ridiculous in the Wolf Man role. [It] was A complete 180, and around one more time—a 360.”

Ok, you’re off the hook Benicio… for now. “The Wolf Man” is apparently set for a November 6, 2009 release date.
