Berlin 2024: New Films Starring Adam Sandler, Lena Dunham, Hunter Schafer & More Added To Upcoming Festival

Sure, there’s still a little under two weeks left in 2023, but we really are starting to look ahead at 2024, particularly when it comes to the first few film festivals of the year. That includes the Berlin International Film Festival, which is still about a month away from a full announcement of the competition films. But just as a holiday treat, we are now learning about several films that will be making their debuts as part of the Berlinale Special section.

According to the folks at the Berlin festival, there are quite a few high-profile films that will be screening at the event as part of the out-of-competition Berlinale Special section. Notably, we are getting the world premiere of the just-teased sci-fi drama, “Spaceman,” from director Johan Renck and star Adam Sandler. In addition, we’re getting a premiere of Julia von Heinz’sTreasure,” which is an upcoming film starring Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry. Also, we’re getting a screening of “Cuckoo,” the upcoming horror thriller from Tilman Singer (who directed the amazing “Luz”), which stars Hunter Schafer, John Malkovich, and Gemma Chan

“It is with special pleasure and pride that we welcome back directors who have presented their work at the festival in the past,” said artistic director Carlo Chatrian. “Berlinale Special will be home for new films by Julia von Heinz (‘Treasure’) and Tilman Singer (‘Cuckoo’), both with projects involving American stars, for the irreverent comedy by the Zellner brothers (‘Sasquatch Sunset’) and the dark universe of the first series by the D’Innocenzo brothers (‘Dostoevsky’), and for the latest from masters Atom Egoyan (‘Seven Veils’) and Tsai Ming-liang (‘Abiding Nowhere’).”

There are also films from Atom Egoyan (“Seven Veils”) and Tsai Ming-liang (“Abiding Nowhere”), as well as the series “Dostoevsky” from the D’Innocenzo brothers.

As mentioned, we still don’t have a full lineup, as that’s not expected until January 20. But for now, there’s plenty to look forward to at 2024’s Berlinale.
