Got a Tip?

Best Actress In A Comedy Series Emmys 2023 Predictions & Contenders

It’s not as competitive as it was a year ago, but there will be some notable snubs once the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Emmy nominees are announced this July. First off, you can absolutely pencil in former winner Rachel Brosnahan for the last season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and recent Independent Spirit Award winner Quinta Brunson for “Abbott Elementary.” And, after those two, “Wednesday’s” Jenna Ortega, who picked up a SAG Award nomination this past January, seems like a safe bet. Will Elle Fanning and Christina Applegate repeat for “The Great” and “Dead to Me,” respectively? (It would be the latter’s third nomination for the Netflix series). Will “Beef” be buzz-worthy enough for Ali Wong to earn a nom? Can Selena Gomez finally land an acting nomination for “Only Murders in the Building”? (She already has a producing nod.) Will Natasha Lyonne be rewarded for the comedy anthology series and Peacock breakout hit “Poker Face”? At least two of these contenders will be on the outside looking in.

Deserving more attention and a shot at the field is Bridget Everett from “Somebody Somewhere,” Devery Jacobs in “Reservation Dogs,” Tatiana Maslaney in “She-Hulk” (really), and Cecily Strong for the second season of “Schmigadoon.” Will the Television Academy give them their attention? You’re right. We probably don’t want to know the answer to that question. [Updated April 12, 2022]
