We’ve reached the point where there’s just so much content coming to Netflix that some real quality stuff falls between the cracks. That seems to be the case here, with this new collaboration between BBC and the streaming service. BBC and Netflix have a new political thriller on the horizon that combines the incredible acting talents of John Goodman and Michaela Coel, titled “Black Earth Rising.”
And in the first trailer for the series, we can see how the two actors are going to lead what is sure to be a series that people will want to check out. “Black Earth Rising” follows a legal investigator (Coel) and her boss (Goodman) as they investigate war crimes committed in Africa. Coel’s character has a very personal relationship to these crimes, as she was a survivor of the Rwandan genocide as a child, but has now grown up in England.
The series comes from writer-director Hugo Blick, who is probably best known for his Peabody and Golden Globe-winning series “The Honourable Woman.” He is responsible for writing and directing all eight episodes of the upcoming drama.
“Black Earth Rising” will premiere later this year on BBC Two before being released on Netflix around the world.
Here’s the series synopsis:
