Got a Tip?

‘Black Panther’ To Rule In Saudi Arabia After 35-Year Cinema Ban Lifted

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” is about to add another “first” to its already impressive list of accomplishments. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, “Black Panther” is set to be the first film to be screened in Saudi Arabia in 35 years.

After the ban on cinemas was lifted in December, AMC was quick to convert a symphony hall into the nation’s first theater, which holds 620 seats. Now, since the theater has finished its renovations, Saudi Arabia is ready to bring in its first film, and what better movie than “Black Panther?” The superhero film has dominated the world box office since its release in February, pulling in over $1.2 billion, breaking many records.

The AMC theater in Saudia Arabia is one of hundreds that are scheduled to open over the next decade, making the country one to keep an eye out for as more and more film fans are able to watch movies on the big screen. With “hundreds” of cinemas, it won’t take long for the Middle Eastern country to catch up with the rest of the world and become a player in the global film market.

Not surprisingly, “Black Panther” is getting the opening slot, and will be followed in no short order by Marvel Studios’ next massive film, “Avengers: Infinity War.” So, it seems like the first cinema in the country is catering to the biggest films in the world. Unfortunately for cinephiles in the Middle Eastern country, they’ll have to wait a little while before they get enough screens and see some of the lesser-known films on the big screen.

“Black Panther” is scheduled to get its Saudi Arabian release on April 18th, followed by “Avengers: Infinity War,” which will see its debut on April 26. Hopefully, the Saudi Arabian people got the memo about no spoilers for ‘Infinity War?’
