Got a Tip?

‘Black Panther’ Soundtrack Features Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, The Weeknd, More

If you were near the internet this week, then you already know that early reaction to “Black Panther” is through the roof. Marvel has once again made blockbuster magic, by taking a tried and true formula, and tossing in some original ingredients. A superhero movie that takes on issues of identity, representation, and more political and cultural themes, it’s also coming with the kind of soundtrack we haven’t heard in a Marvel flick to date. But parents be warned, it’s not for kids.

Curated and produced by Kendrick Lamar and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, this is one of those “music from and inspired by” type deals, featuring artists including Kendrick himself, SZA, Schoolboy Q, Vince Staples, Ab-Soul, The Weeknd and more. Don’t think for a second that this is family friendly listening either; f-bombs and more abound — nobody held back just because this was a four-quadrant superhero movie. So far, a couple of tracks have been released, but the standout at the moment is absolutely thunderous “King’s Dead” (listen below).

“Black Panther” opens on February 16th, but the album drops a week early on February 9th.
