First 'Solo' Teaser Expected To Kick Off During Super Bowl

We’re now less than four months away from the still penciled in release date for “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The questions about the film’s release have reached a deafening pitch: will it be pushed back? Will Disney blitz their blockbuster into cinemas anyway, even with such a short timeline? Well, the answers are coming very, very soon.

THR reports that the marketing campaign for ‘Solo’ is expected to kick off during this weekend’s Super Bowl. So for nerds like me who couldn’t care less about game day, I now have a reason to track down a Super Bowl party (I’ll bring the dip!). Given that the going rate for prime time space during the Super Bowl runs for approximately $5 million for thirty seconds, don’t expect a full trailer. Could Disney easily shell out for a one-minute spot? I wouldn’t be surprised. There are all kinds of expectations riding on this — particularly given the extensive reshoots, and the surprise exit of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller — so Disney and Lucasfilm need to show everybody they made the right decisions here.

In case you’re wondering why there hasn’t been kind of teaser until now, it’s believed that Disney and Lucasfilm didn’t want to override the release of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” with marketing for ‘Solo,’ which makes sense.

Until we know otherwise, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is still opening on May 25th.
