From everything that’s been gathered so far, “Blink Twice” looks to be a twisted combination of “Saltburn” and HBO’s “White Lotus.” A seemingly exotic getaway that slowly transforms into something more menacing and dark. A place where everything is not as it seems for the lead protagonist, who’s reeled in by the charm of her host and romantic idol. Considering the success of last year’s “Saltburn” and the Mike White TV series, this is a winning formula. It’s also another potential hit for Amazon MGM Studios, the studio that produced “Saltburn.”
That’s not counting the star power aboard. It’s the directorial debut for actress Zoe Kravitz and stars Channing Tatum (in a mysterious and scary role even by his standards), Naomi Ackie, Adria Arjona, Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat, Geena Davis, Haley Joel Osment, and Kyle MacLachlan.
Naomi Ackie plays Frida, a waitress who develops an attraction for the super-rich Slater King(Tatum) and follows him to his private island, where she encounters others who are all there to party hard. Soon, celebrations turn to the bizarre, and Frida must deal with a shifted reality.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days, and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.
Kravitz is director and co-writer with E.T. Feigenbaum (“High Fidelity”). She’s also attached as a producer with Channing Tatum. Bruce Cohen (“American Beauty,” “Milk,” and “Silver Linings Playbook”) is also a producer. Amazon MGM Studios will release “Blink Twice” in theaters on August 23.
