'Bond 25' Reveals Cast, The Return Of Jeffrey Wright, & Synopsis But Still Doesn't Unveil Title

After a short game of director roulette (finally landing on Cary Fukunaga) and a couple of release date delays, the production of “Bond 25,” the final film in the series for star Daniel Craig, is now underway, officially. And to kick off the production of the 25th entry in the decades-spanning franchise, the producers decided to spill all the goods on what fans can expect in the new film. Well, all the goods, minus a title. They’ll save that for another big announcement, we assume.

That being said, there’s plenty of things to talk about with this new series of announcements. First, and foremost, the film now has a cast. And while many of the names were already reported, including the returning cast, there are some new names to mention.

The full cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, and Jeffrey Wright. New additions to the franchise are Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, and Rami Malek.

As expected, no Lupita Nyong’o among the names. But Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Dali Benssalad, and David Dencik are all great additions that were previously unreported.

And if you’re wondering about any surprise names that will show up, our own Rodrigo Perez has an update about someone that has yet to be announced, but is likely to show up:

Also confirmed is the list of folks contributing to the script, which were all previously reported. The surprisingly long list of writers features ‘Bond’ regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. However, joining them are Scott Z. Burns (whom we revealed in February was brought on to fix the script) with Cary Joji Fukunaga and “Fleabag” creator/comedian Phoebe Waller-Bridge whom we’ve heard did a rewrite polish on the dialogue and focused specifically on the female characters.

And knowing the cast doesn’t do you much good unless you know what the hell the film is supposed to be about. Thankfully, the producers released a brief description of the film, which should be enough to get the ‘Bond 25’ speculation train going for a while longer. Here’s the synopsis:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, “We’re thrilled to return to Jamaica with ‘Bond 25,’ Daniel Craig’s fifth installment in the 007 series, where Ian Fleming created the iconic James Bond character and ‘Dr. No’ and ‘Live And Let Die’ were filmed.”

And for those interested in the full crew listing, the folks announced include Director of Photography Linus Sandgren, Editor Tom Cross and Elliot Graham, Production Designer Mark Tildesley, Costume Designer Suttirat Larlarb, Supervising Stunt Coordinator Olivier Schneider, 2nd Unit Stunt Coordinator Lee Morrison and Visual Effects Supervisor Charlie Noble. Returning members to the team are; 2nd Unit Director Alexander Witt, Special Effects and Action Vehicles Supervisor Chris Corbould and Casting Director Debbie McWilliams.

So, there you have it – a synopsis, the cast, and the crew for ‘Bond 25.’ Now, we just have to wait a little under a year to finally get to see Daniel Craig’s final go-round as the superspy. ‘Bond 25’ will hit theaters on April 8, 2020. Good detail on the title here too, all the previous rumors are apparently false, fyi.
