'Bookworm' Trailer: Elijah Wood Plays An Estranged Father In The New Kid-Friendly Comedy

Elijah Wood is a national treasure. Not only has he been consistently acting in some of the most iconic films since he was a child, but in his more recent years, he’s championing indie films with his work as an actor and producer. He’s just exactly the type of person we need more of in Hollywood. All that to say, his new film, “Bookworm,” looks positively delightful.

As seen in the trailer, “Bookworm” tells the story of a precocious young girl who reunites with her estranged father. The duo then go on an epic adventure in hopes of finding proof of mysterious animal.

The cast includes Elijah Wood, Michael Smiley, and Nell Fisher. “Bookworm” is directed by Ant Timpson. The filmmaker previously teamed up with Wood on the film, “Come to Daddy.” Timpson and Wood are also producing partners, working on films such as “Turbo Kid” and “The Greasy Strangler.”

“Bookworm” arrives in select theaters and VOD on October 18. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Bookworm follows 11-year-old Mildred (Nell Fisher) whose life takes a wild turn when her estranged father, Strawn Wise (Elijah Wood), a washed-up Las Vegas illusionist, suddenly reappears. Years ago, after a magical encounter with the once-charming Strawn, Mildred’s mom moved back to New Zealand. Now, a comical mishap leaves Strawn caring for Mildred while her mom is hospitalized. Their first adventure? Camping to hunt for the mythological Canterbury Panther. As this mismatched duo navigates the wilderness, magic tricks, and an extraordinary quest, hilarity ensues, and they might just find a way to piece their family back together.
