This year has been a monumental period in the career of actress Brie Larson. While she’s already earned the acclaim from critics and peers thanks to numerous quality performances in films, including an Oscar for her role in “Room,” 2019 saw the actress turn into a pop culture icon thanks to “Captain Marvel.” But with that popularity came a large outcry from certain people (let’s just call them “trolls”), who, without even seeing the film, hoped that it would fail due to Larson’s outspoken opinions. But according to the actress, that never bothered her. Why? Because she didn’t even notice.
Speaking to Variety, as part of the Power of Women issue, Larson was asked about the outrage from trolls regarding her superhero blockbuster. Whether or not she is being sincere is up for debate, but she revealed to the outlet that she wasn’t aware of the campaign by trolls to have the movie bomb.
“They did? Oh. I didn’t even know,” she said. “I don’t have time for it, you know? The things that I have extra time to really look at are, like: Am I eating healthy food? Am I drinking water? Am I meditating? Have I called my mom today? “
She added, “More recently, I guess maybe it’s because of ‘Captain Marvel,’ I’ve had a lot of journalists be, like, ‘How often do Google yourself?’ I’m, like, ‘I’ve never Googled myself. I have genuinely never needed to look at the internet to explain to me who I am. I’m extremely committed to that in my day-to-day life!’”
As for the future of “Captain Marvel,” Larson isn’t 100% positive about what lies ahead. Obviously, with the film earning over $1.1 billion, there’s a big future for the character, but a schedule (if she’s not keeping it a secret) is still undecided.
“I don’t really know what job I’m going to do next, which is very exciting,” Larson said about ‘Captain Marvel 2.’ “I don’t even know what my life’s gonna be!…I just feel like it’s been this incubation time. Whether it’s incubation because I’m developing projects, and also incubation myself, being, like: OK, I’m going to be turning 30. I’ve been working a lot. I need to just like change it up and see what’s there for me — see who I am now. And which ways that I want to grow.’”
Regardless of when “Captain Marvel 2” arrives, it’s definitely coming. And perhaps, that film could be joined by another major Marvel project fronted by a female cast.
“I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin [Feige] and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this,’” Larson revealed. “What that means, I have no idea. You know, I’m not in charge of the future of Marvel, but it is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”
Obviously, if the female Marvel team-up film does happen, we’re sure that there will be no trolls that would object right? People have already moved past their irrational hatred of Larson and the dismissal of Captain Marvel, right? No? Oh…fun.
