Brady Corbet is a filmmaker that seems to always gain our attention whenever he prepares a new film for release. He has a knack for putting together a talented cast for a project that always sounds interesting on paper. However, depending on your own tastes, the execution might not be 100% solid, with some praising all of his work and others wondering what went wrong (looking at you, “Vox Lux“). But at the very beginning, we can’t help but be intrigued at the prospect of what Corbet is cooking up. And that’s exactly what we feel now with the upcoming film, “The Brutalist,” featuring one of the best casts that have been announced all year.

The full cast for Corbet’s new film includes Joel Edgerton (“Boy Erased”), Marion Cotillard (“Inception”), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies”), Sebastian Stan (Marvel’s ‘Captain America’ franchise, “I, Tonya”), Isaach De Bankolé (“Black Panther”), Vanessa Kirby (“Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Alessandro Nivola (“The Many Saints of Newark”), Raffey Cassidy (“Vox Lux,” “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”), and Stacy Martin (“Vox Lux”).

That’s one hell of a cast, right?
Of course, a solid cast is nothing new for Corbet. His previous film, “Vox Lux,” starred Natalie Portman, Jude Law, the aforementioned Martin and Cassidy, as well as Willem Dafoe as a narrator. And before that, “The Childhood of a Leader” featured Robert Pattinson. That being said, it’s quite clear that “The Brutalist” is a step up in star power and clearly shows Corbet’s new film is his most ambitious yet.
“The Brutalist” is described as “an epic saga and an unconventional love story” about a visionary artist and his wife who flee post-war Europe and come to America. And that’s when their lives are forever changed by a mysterious and wealthy new client.
“Amidst a revamped cycle of populism and prejudice in the 21st Century, ‘The Brutalist’ is a film which celebrates the triumphs of the most daring and accomplished visionaries; our ancestors,” said Corbet. “It is the project which is so far the closest to my heart and family history. I so look forward to reuniting with many of our closest collaborators, as well as some exciting new ones, to realize what we all anticipate to be a vital and urgent motion picture.”
It’s unclear when we might see “The Brutalist” debut, but with its anticipated start date of January 2021, it would appear that the filmmaker is hoping for a fall 2021 festival release. Or at the very least, early 2022.
