Is this good news or bad news for the Bryan Singer reboot of “The Munsters”? His pilot for “Mockingbird Lane” is coming to NBC earlier than expected – the hour-long show will air as a Halloween special on Friday, October 26th at 8 p.m. before “Grimm.” For those keeping track, that’s the slot that was recently vacated by “Community” and “Whitney.”
Well, unless the show receives rave reviews and is watched by a sizable audience it’s pretty definitively bad news for the series. And while Deadline reported early last week that it was looking unlikely that NBC would be picking up the show for an entire series, co-creator Bryan Fuller shot those reports down. And while it looks like the pilot will be aired in lieu of a series order, anything can happen, we suppose. The pilot stars Jerry O’Connell, Eddie Izzard and Portia de Rossi amongst others. And fortunately, if you were desperate for an early glance, a whole heap of new images have been released to promote the one-off show.
It’s a case of mixed fortunes for writer Bryan Fuller at NBC. While "Mockingbird Lane" looks unlikely to make it past the pilot stage, his other project "Hannibal" (the Hannibal Lecter prequel drama starring Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen) got a straight to series order of 13 episodes and looks to be a show that the network have a great degree of confidence in. If you’re looking forward to that and want to see how Fuller handles rebooting a pre-existing property, then "Mockingbird Lane" may be a good place to start – just don’t get too attached.
