It seems Bryan Singer is on a bit of a nostalgia kick right now. Earlier this fall, he earned buzz when he revealed he would be bringing the '70s sci-fi series "Battlestar Galactica" to the big screen, and he was recently rumored to be eyeing "The Six Billion Dollar Man" (an update on "The Six Million Dollar Man"). But before he gets to either of those, an old cable favorite is getting refreshed for our times.
With monsters of all kinds the current rage on both the small and big screen, NBC is exhuming "The Munsters" and bringing back the strange family for a new one hour drama, with Singer tapped to direct the pilot. Yeah, this sounds like a bad idea to us too. At any rate, Singer is no stranger to TV, having already directed pilot episodes for "House" (where he's also an executive producer) and "Football Wives." He was also a producer on the short lived "Dirty Sexy Money" and the SyFy mini-series "The Triangle." All this to say, his television tastes are kind of all over the place both genre and quality-wise.
Anyway, Singer will put on his producer hat again here with Bryan Fuller ("Pushing Daisies," "Dead Like Me," "Heroes") joining him, and penning the script as well. Will anyone care about a new version of "The Munsters"? Guess we'll find out, but with Singer at the helm it gives us a curiosity about the series that we never had before, so that's something.
