Got a Tip?

‘BRZRKR’: Justin Lin To Direct Keanu Reeves In Immortal Action Flick At Netflix

While Lionsgate and Chad Stahelski are trying to figure out what the next move for the “John Wick” franchise (a fifth installment is being mulled over with two spinoff films on their way starting with Ana de Armas‘ “Ballerina“) will be, star Keanu Reeves has found a director his next big action project at Netflix, “BRZRKR.”

Based on the comic book of the same title that Reeves created with the help of writer Matt Kindt, and artist Ron Garney, “BRZRKR” has landed Justin Lin as the film’s director, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film first announced by Netflix back in 2021, sees Reeves playing an immortal violent antihero who is able to survive a slew of brutal fights and missions over thousands of years thanks to being a cursed half-god.

Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin (“Project Power”) is adapting the Boom! Studios comic book after working on genre projects such as Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman Part II,” has been attached to a “Mega Man” film, and was most recently behind the Netflix anime series “Terminator Zero.”

The project’s official synopsis via Netflix reads:

“BRZRKR” is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B” is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

Lin is famously known for his longtime directing of “The Fast & The Furious” franchise (before his exit during the filming of “Fast X handing off the reigns to Louis Leterrier) starting with “Tokyo Drift,” and was tapped by Paramount to helm “Star Trek Beyond.” The filmmaker is also looking to team up with Daniel Craig and Charlize Theron on the heist thriller Two For The Money.”

There is an expectation if the first installment of “BRZRKR” is successful enough, it could become a franchise starter and the aim would be to move forward with subsequent follow-ups. An anime series is also in the works with Tomlin attached to write.

However, we’ll have to see how Netflix subscribers react before we get a hint of more movies.
