When you look at the filmography of Cameron Crowe, it’s pretty incredible just to see which iconic films he has either written, directed, or both. “Say Anything,” “Singles,” “Almost Famous,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” are all from Crowe. And let’s not forget the incredible, Oscar snub that is “Aloha.” Oh wait, maybe we should forget that one. My bad. Regardless, when you are the author of films such as those, people are inevitably going to ask you about sequels.
Well, in a new interview with Collider, Crowe was asked about his ideas for some sequels to his more renowned projects, such as “Say Anything,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “Almost Famous.” And believe it or not, he’s not totally opposed to revisiting any of those projects.

“I originally thought I might return to Lloyd Dobler, that character and I love [John Cusack],” Crowe explained. “But I think I kinda lost my way, where I lost the window where we could have done something maybe a few years ago. But [‘Say Anything’], that’s the only one where I’ve thought there might be more of a story to tell.”
But “Say Anything” isn’t the only Cameron Crowe film that people are interested in seeing continue in a sequel. Of course, there’s “Jerry Maguire,” a sports-drama featuring Tom Cruise as an agent dealing with his own drama and the future for his client, Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. The film went on to be nominated for five Oscars, including one win for Gooding, Jr. as Best Supporting Actor. And for Crowe, it’s that character that he thinks would be the star of the sequel.
“If there was ever going to be a continuing story about Jerry Maguire, I always thought it should be about the Tidwells,” the filmmaker said. “I always thought it should be Marcee and Rod. From time to time, people have called up and said ‘We want to do a TV show of “Jerry Maguire,”’ and I’ll say, ‘You know, I think that story continues with the Tidwells,’ and they never call back. You don’t want to see Regina King do Marcee Tidwell? I’d do that in a second.”
And finally, what about what is arguably Crowe’s most beloved film, “Almost Famous?” Is there a sequel in mind?
“There may be more to ‘Almost Famous’ just because that story goes on into the ’80s and ’90s, but I’m not sure how I would do it. I do like going onto the new stuff. It’s interesting that ‘Say Anything’ is the one that I would revisit if I ever could find a way there,” he said.
Well, whether it’s lack of interest (“Jerry Maguire”) or a lack of ideas (“Almost Famous”), it appears that the only sequel that really has a shot of being made by Cameron Crowe right now is “Say Anything.” And with how Hollywood studios absolutely love to dust off IP and remake, reboot, and sequelize things, it’s not the craziest idea ever to think we could see it in the future.
