‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Trailer: Anthony Mackie Spread His Wings In New 2025 Marvel Film

Nearly six years after Captain Steve Rodgers handed Sam Wilson, Aka The Falcon, the shield in “Avengers: Endgame” (well, at least in real years, not MCU years), Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will finally appear in his first solo movie, “Captain America: Brave New World.” Not due in theaters until early 2025, with “Deadpool & Wolverine” in theaters soon, Marvel is not missing a beat, releasing the trailer now, which means it’ll undoubtedly played nationwide in movie theaters before the Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds-led film.

It’s been a long road to “Captain America: Brave New World” and Wilson’s transition from the Falcon to Captain America. Beyond ‘Endgame,’ the roadmap to the movie began with “The Falcon & The Winter Solider,” which featured Mackie’s finally accepting the mantle and shield after an initial reluctance of not being able to live up to Steve Rodgers.

And much of that team returns to ‘Brave New World,’ including the showrunner Malcolm Spellman, who led the writing teams on ‘F&TWS,’ and co-wrote the film with another ‘Falcon’ alumni, Dalan Musson. Matthew Orton is also credited, as he wrote the extensive re-shoot version of the movie, which was only shot this spring (the original production began in March 2023, but scheduling meant they would have to wait months before Mackie was free to shoot again).

Via the rumor mill, “Captain America: Brave New World” seems like it tracks two stories— none really shown in the trailer, though— seeking out the metals found in the statue that came out of the earth in Marvel’s “Eternals”(you see a quick glimpse at the end) and confronting the legacy of the studio’s 2008 movie, “The Incredible Hulk.” Much of that ‘Hulk’ cast returns and is an essential part of the ‘Brave New World’ story, including Liv Tyler as Betty Ross (Bruce Banner’s ex-girlfriend), Tim Blake Nelson as the villain Samuel Sterns / Leader, and the newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (now played by Harrison Ford, following the death of William Hurt in 2022).

Many characters from “The Falcon & The Winter Solider” return to the narrative too. Danny Ramirez reprises his role as Sam Wilson’s buddy Joaquin Torres (who picks up the mantle of the Falcon), and Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, one of the discarded soldiers from the African-American Korean War who was given the original super soldier serum. The film also includes Shira Haas as the Marvel character Sabra, plus Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, Rosa Salazar, and Giancarlo Esposito, who have been cast in undisclosed roles, though from the trailer, the “Breaking Bad” alumnus is clearly a villain. There’s at least one major surprise that Marvel gave out, and that’s in the poster and the end of the trailer, which teases The Red Hulk (see below).

Here’s the official synopsis:

After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.

“Captain America: Brave New World” is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU. Watch the first trailer below.
