'Captive State' Trailer: John Goodman Wants You To Respect Our Alien Overlords

We’ve seen alien invasion films of all shapes and sizes. There’s the classic “Independence Day”-style film where aliens invade and immediately want to wipe out the human race. Then you have something like “Arrival,” which is on the opposite side of the spectrum where the beings from outer space come to help. The upcoming film “Captive State” lives somewhere in between those extremes.

In the latest trailer for the alien invasion flick, we see that the invaders have been here for a decade and while they have taken over humanity, they do so in the name of peace and harmony. Known simply as The Legislature, this new government rules all and humanity has either bought into the propaganda or are part of some underground resistance. And since the freedom fighters are always the fun people to follow, “Captive State” tells the story of a young man in Chicago attempting to bring down the oppressive new regime.

“Captive State” has an incredible cast that includes John Goodman, Ashton Sanders, Jonathan Majors, Colson Baker, and Vera Farmiga. Though the trailer makes you believe that Goodman seems to be on the wrong side of history, his interactions with Sanders hint that there could be a change in mindset for the veteran actor.

“Captive State” is co-written and directed by Rupert Wyatt. The filmmaker is probably best known as the other guy to do a recent ‘Planet of the Apes’ film that isn’t named Matt Reeves. He’s also directed films such as “The Escapist” and “The Gambler.”

“Captive State” hits theaters on March 29, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, “Captive State” explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents.
