Nowadays, it seems like you can throw a rock and hit a new zombie film or TV series. The premise of the dead coming back to life to feast on the living has turned from unique and different into fairly commonplace in the last decade or so. So, when a zombie film comes along that looks like a new take on the classic story, then we stop and take notice. And that’s exactly what we see in the new trailer for the film “Cargo.”
The film focuses on a very specific portion of the zombie story. Following a father and his infant daughter, “Cargo” tells the story of a man who was just infected with the zombie virus and has 48 hours to find a new caregiver for his daughter before he turns into a monster. As seen in the trailer, the father, played by Martin Freeman, has to venture into rural Australia as he looks for any human life along the way. The film looks tense and horrifying, and is definitely something you’ll want to check out when it’s released soon.
“Cargo” is written by Yolanda Ramke, who is also making her feature film debut as a director with co-helmer Ben Howling. The film is produced by Kristina Ceyton, who is best known for her work on “The Babadook.”
“Cargo” has its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival before it is launched worldwide on Netflix beginning May 18th.
