Carla Gugino Joins Jim Carrey In 'Mr. Popper's Penguins'

Carla Gugino has joined Jim Carrey in the kid’s film, “Mr. Poppers Penguins.”

Forever known to us at the project that was almost made with Noah Baumbach directing and Ben Stiller starring, the film seems to be moving full steam ahead. Based on the children’s book by Richard and Florence Atwater, the film will follow “Mr. Popper (Carrey) a high-powered, New York business man who suddenly inherits six penguins [down from 12 in the book]. Taking care of the animals is no easy matter, and he quickly hits major hurtles, both at home and at work. But along the way, he learns the value of family and friendship–human and otherwise.” Sounds heartwarming, doesn’t it?

No word yet on Gugino’s role in the film but we’d wager she’s the love interest. The film will utilize a draft by Jared Stern (“Bolt”), who is reworking the script written by Sean Anders and John Morris (“Sex Drive,” “She’s Out Of My League”). Mark Waters (“The Spiderwick Chronicles”) will direct. No word yet on when production will start, but most likely, it will go in front of cameras by year’s end. [Variety]
