‘Carousel’: Chris Pine & Jenny Slate Lead Indie Romance From Rachel Lambert

Writer/director Rachel Lambert has secured two impressive leads for “Carousel,” a follow-up to the 2023 Daisy Ridley-led Sundance comedy “Sometimes I Think About Dying,” which are Chris Pine (“Poolman”) and on-the-rise actress Jenny Slate (“Dying For Sex”).

Details are scarce for the indie romance, according to the report hailing from Deadline, so we’ll have to be patient for more information, but Lambert provided the script. We wouldn’t be entirely shocked about it having a dark, witty comedic angle.

Production is said to have already wrapped after filming took in Cleveland, Ohio, with Pine and Slate’s supporting cast featuring Abby Ryder Fortson (“The Pitt”), Sam Waterston (“Grace & Frankie”), Katey Sagal (“Sons of Anarchy”), Heléne Yorke (“The Other Two”), Jessica Harper (“Nightbitch”), and Jeffrey DeMunn (“Billions”).

A producing team assembled consists of Alex Saks alongside Bobby Daly Jr. and David Lipper of Latigo Films, with Pine and Ian Gotler for Barry Linen Motion Pictures. Nat McCormick and Brandon Burrows of Stoic, Melissa West, Mariela Villa, and Ryan Winterstern are executive producers. Financing is being handled by Latigo, with CAA and WME overseeing sales and Stotic doing foreign sales.

With “Carousel” all wrapped and needing a home, we’ll have to wait for where it lands concerning distribution, and with the project in the early point of post-production, a trailer won’t be dropping anytime soon.
