Pixar‘s “Cars” franchise may not be the most critically beloved of the animation studio’s films. However, all three movies did very well at the box office, so much so that Disney made the “Planes” spinoff movies and other “Cars” shorts. Now, Pixar looks to continue the adventures of Lightning McQueen in Mater in a new show for Disney+, “Cars On The Road.”

The upcoming series sees Owen Wilson and Larry The Cable Guy return to voice McQueen and Mater, respectively. But after three films, what could these two best friends get up to now? Well, The series follows the Radiator Springs pair on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister. “The series is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater,” says director Steve Purcell. “Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns.”
There’s no word if any previous “Cars” voice actors return for the series beyond Wilson and Larry. However, The DisInsider confirms that characters from the “Planes” movies will return for the new show. Purcell shares directing duties with Bobby Podesta, and Brian Fee. Composer Jake Monaco scores all nine of the show’s episodes.
“Cars On The Road” releases exclusively on Disney+ as part of the second annual Disney+ Day celebration in Anaheim, CA on September 8. Watch the trailer below.
