Got a Tip?

Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara Reunited And Shot A Secret Project With ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ Director David Lowery

Sometimes creatives make a movie together, and then never speak again. But it seems this wasn’t the case on the set of David Lowery‘s breakout film “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” which stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara. The director is slated to reunite with Affleck next year to shoot “The Old And The Gun” (which will also feature Robert Redford, who had a small role in Lowery’s “Pete’s Dragon“). And this past summer, the filmmaker quietly shot a new project with Affleck and Mara.

In a new interview with “DP/30,” Affleck confirms that he and Mara shot something this past summer with Lowery, and didn’t offer any further details. But the director himself had already teased what it might be.

“I had the urge to just go make something spontaneously, like I used to do. I would have an idea and go make it, either a short film or an experimental idea. Over the past few years, I stopped doing that as much, and I really wanted to get back in the habit of getting some friends together and shooting something. It’s a good habit to be in as a filmmaker. I basically wrapped [post-production on ‘Pete’s Dragon’] on June 10th and the next day flew to Dallas and started working on whatever this thing is that we’re making,” he told Filmmaker Magazine in July.

“It’s a stressful vacation, because making things is stressful, but there’s no stakes. It’s a bunch of friends hanging out for the summer and we have a camera with us,” he added.

So that’s something to keep an eye out for, perhaps in the short film section of upcoming festivals —perhaps Sundance? Check out the full conversation with Affleck below. [via Indiewire]
