'Cat Person' Trailer: Susanna Fogel's Acclaimed Film Finally Gets Wide Release On Hulu In February

Why would someone lie about having cats to get a date? When you think about it, that sort of lie really does start to become a bit… sinister. And that’s the question at the heart of the film, “Cat Person.”

Look, let’s get this out of the way first — “Cat Person” isn’t a “new” film in the strictest sense of the word. The film debuted at Sundance a year ago, got rave reviews, and then was in theaters for about one minute (give or take). Then the film was released in December on VOD… but only on Spectrum and Hoopla (which is a real thing, I promise). So, to say the film got a “proper” release isn’t actually true. A film like “Cat Person” deserves to be seen by a wider audience, point blank. Thankfully, that’s where Hulu comes in.

Hulu is about to release “Cat Person” on its streaming service, which will realistically be the first time many people reading this will get the chance to see Susanna Fogel’s acclaimed film. That means a new trailer. And in the new trailer, we get a chance to see what “Cat Person” is about—basically a young woman meets a guy online who says he loves cats. Things are going decently (definitely not great), but he likes cats, so he isn’t a total creep, right? Well, after the woman notices that he lied about having cats, the tangled web of lies starts to unweave and everything gets much creepier.

The film stars Emilia Jones, Nicholas Braun, Geraldine Viswanathan, Hope Davis, Fred Melamed, and Isabella Rossellini. As mentioned, “Cat Person” is directed by Fogel, who is probably best known for “The Spy Who Dumped Me.” She also recently reteamed with Jones again on “Winner,” which debuted at this year’s Sundance. Hopefully, that film doesn’t have to jump through the same hoops to get a major release.

“Cat Person” hits Hulu on February 9. You can see the trailer below:
