'Caught Stealing': Zoë Kravitz Joins Austin Butler In Darren Aronofsky's Upcoming Crime Thriller

Zoë Kravitz has her first acting gig since “The Batman” lined up. Deadline reports that the actress (and director; Kravitz’s feature debut “Blink Twice hits theaters on August 23) will star alongside Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky‘s upcoming crime thriller “Caught Stealing.” No word on who Kravitz will play yet, but it’s a splashy role to mark her onscreen return (and shows that the 2022 two-fer of “The Batman” and “Kimi” isn’t a flash in the pan for her).

“Caught Stealing” stars Butler as Hank Thompson, an ex-baseball star burnout who gets sucked into the criminal underworld of ’90s NYC over one wild night.  Charlie Huston adapts his 2004 novel for the big screen, with Aronofsky and Ari Handel producing through Protozoa. Aronofsky is coming off of 2022’s “The Whale,” which saw leading man Brendan Fraser win a Best Actor Oscar for his role. But from the sound of that premise, “Caught Stealing” will be an altogether different project for Aronofsky, a return of sorts to his “Requiem For A Dream” days.

But back to Ms. Kravitz. She hasn’t been onscreen of late due to maing “Blink Twice,” which already had buzz back when it was first titled “Pussy Island.” The film’s recent first trailer pushed that hype into overdrive. The set-up? Think “Get Out” set on Jeffrey Epstein’s Island: a cocktail waitress gets invited for a weekend on a tech billionaire’s private island, where things gradually go sour. Kravitz cast her fiance Channing Tatum as the villanous mogul Slater King, with Naomie Ackie, Adria Arjona, Simon Rex, Christian Slater, Kyle Maclachlan, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, Alia Shawkat, and Levon Hawke also starring. That’s quite a cast for a debut film. Expect “Blink Twice” to make a big splash when it hits theaters next month.

Other recent big roles for Kravitz beyond Selina Kyle/Catwoman in “The Batman” and her lead role in Steven Soderbergh‘s “Kimi” include the HBO series “Big Little Lies.” Meanwhile, “Caught Stealing” is just one of many intriguing titles on the upcoming Sony Pictures calendar. Sony also produces Sam Mendes‘ four (yes, four) biopics about The Beatles, one for each member. The studio also has Danny Boyle‘s “28 Years Later” coming up, as well as Kogonada‘s latest, “Big Bold Beautiful Journey.” And “SNL 1975” is another upcoming Sony title, with director Jason Reitman currently in post-production on it.

As for when audiences should expect “Caught Stealing”? Expect it in Q3 or Q4 2025 at the earliest.
