Filmmaker and actress Celine Song wowed audiences with her award-winning and acclaimed romantic drama “Past Lives,” her directorial debut landing the Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay nominations at the 96th Academy Awards. Song is now making a grand return to the big screen with her follow-up, “Materialists,” which has secured a prime theatrical release from A24.
There is now a big update on the movie that was written and directed by Song. An announcement from A24 (via Deadline) reveals that the pic starring Dakota Johnson (“The Lost Daughter”), Chris Evans (“Knives Out”), and Pedro Pascal (“The Fantastic Four: First Steps”) will be heading to theaters on June 13.
“Materialists,” which is listed among The Playlist’s 100 most anticipated films of 2025, will follow “a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker who finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.”
This marks the second time Song and A24 have partnered, strengthening that ongoing working relationship. Song produces “Materialists” alongside David Hinojosa of 2AM and Killer Films.
Johnson and Evans are coming off critical and box office hiccups; the pair of actors certainly deserve a win after some less-than-stellar outings.
That June slot will see “The Materialists” going up against the family-friendly DreamWorks/Universal live-action remake of “How To Train Your Dragon” and holdovers from previous weekends.
With that summer release now set, it won’t be too long before A24 starts the marketing campaign, with a first-look trailer likely coming down the road shortly.
