Charlie Cox Says A ‘Daredevil’ Return Would Be Like A “Reimagining” & Jokes He’d “Fight” The Next Actor Chosen For The Role

You can’t help but feel a bit sad for the group of actors that were hired by Marvel Television to launch the NetflixDefenders’ TV universe. Folks like Charlie Cox, Mike Colter, Krysten Ritter, Jon Bernthal, and Finn Jones didn’t realize that when Marvel Studios would take over control of the characters, their run as the Marvel superheroes would likely come to an end. But of all the actors in that bunch, it would see like Charlie Cox is the one that fans most want to return with a proper MCU introduction. And the actor is ready, willing, and able to make it happen and will fight for the chance if needed.

Speaking to SiriusXM’s Jessica Shaw, Charlie Cox was asked if he’d ever like to return to the role of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in the MCU. The actor previously played the character in three seasons of the Netflix TV series, “Daredevil,” as well as one season of “The Defenders.” And unsurprisingly, he’s definitely open to the idea, even knowing that it would likely mean big changes for the character.

If there was an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine that would be a reimagining of the character and the show,” he said, likening the situation to when a new writer and artist take over the comic books and start a new storyline or offer a new take.

And when he’s asked if he would have advice for any new actor that is given the chance to play the role of Daredevil, if the MCU does reboot the character without Cox, he joked, “I would go down into my basement, I would find my Daredevil mask, and I would hunt them down. I would make them fight me for it.”

Of course, even Cox says all this discussion is “purely speculative.” However, it has been heavily rumored that the actor would appear in the upcoming “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” leading to Matt Murdock’s first introduction into the MCU. Previously, the Netflix series and their characters would mention MCU events and characters but because they were produced by Marvel Television, Kevin Feige never looked at them as canon in his MCU.

So, all that to say, Charlie Cox is ready to come back as Matt Murdock, but he’s also completely aware that it might not happen and he understands. But if you want to watch him in the role, you can revisit “Daredevil” on Netflix now.
