'Charlie's Angels' Trailer Says Don't Judge These Girls By Their (Under)Cover

Good morning Angels! The kick-ass trio is back for another era with a whole new “Charlie’s Angels” movie, whose first trailer just debuted.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks (her second feature as director, after “Pitch Perfect 2”), these new angels are comprised of Kristen Stewart as Sabina, Naomi Scott as Elena, and Ella Balinska as Jane. There doesn’t appear to be any sight of Charlie himself, though Banks herself has taken up the role of the new unseen boss of his detective agency, playing one of three Bosleys, with Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou are the other two.

Charlie’s Angels began as a TV series on ABC that lasted from 1976 to 1981. Although dismissed critically as being part of ‘Jiggle TV’, the show became a huge hit and the franchise has since become a big part of action women in pop culture – it later spawned its first reiteration “Charlie’s Angels” in 2000 and its sequel “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” three years later, both directed by McG. A short-lived remake of the show appeared on ABC in 2011, though hopefully, Banks’ remake will do better business than that.

Continuing from the original show, as well as the two McG films, Banks has maintained that this new iteration is not a remake or reboot, but will follow the storyline from before. She also claims that the main inspiration for this new entry in the franchise has not so much been the previous TV series and films, but the bombastic action-packed “Mission: Impossible” movies, the latest of which was hailed as one of the best action films ever – so she’s certainly taking inspiration from the right source.
