‘Cheech And Chong’s Last Movie’ Trailer: Documentary Celebrating The Famous Hippie Duo Arrives April 25

Stoner comedies and road trip movies are commonplace nowadays. Much of that is thanks to Cheech and Chong. “Cheech and Chong’s Last Movie,” a documentary that premiered at last year’s South by Southwest Film and TV Festival, will see a theatrical release on April 25. The film examines the iconic duo’s legacy while reflecting on five decades of fame and success across multiple platforms. Highlighted primarily by “Up in Smoke.”  The 1978 comedy introduced the world to the stoner buddies and grossed $100 million at the box office. The eighties saw countless sequels and a rift between Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. All is explored in the feature, which also marks the directorial debut of David L. Bushell, a producer primarily known for projects like “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Dallas Buyers Club.”

The documentary stars Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and Lou Adler. David L. Bushell is the director and producer. Executive producers are Cleo Segura Sherrel, Christian Selleron, and Gary Haseley. Robbi Chong, daughter of Tommy Chong, and Jim McDonnell are producers. 

‘Last Movie’ explores the five-decade-long career of the famous stoner duo ‘Cheech & Chong.’’’  It breaks down their successes performing stand-up, making hit records and starring in iconic movies while also examining the duo’s somewhat rocky friendship throughout the years.

Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie defies documentary expectations, offering a wildly imaginative take on genre convention, a true-life tale told through a mix of animation and archival madness, all underscored by a classic cinematic road trip comedy. Tracing the enduring legacy of pioneering comics Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, the film features interviews, sketches, and never-before-seen footage spanning the duo’s five-decade career. The result is an unlikely story of friendship and fame, turmoil and defiance, rebellion and ultimately – redemption.
