Chris Hemsworth Says “Nothing Official” About ‘G.I.Joe/Transformers’ Crossover & Still Waiting To Hear About ‘Thor 5’

Chris Hemsworth is at San Diego Comic-Con this week promoting the animated Paramount film, “Transformers One,” which opens in September. Hemsworth voices a young Optimus Prime in the movie along with voice cast members like Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Buscemi.

Hemsworth is also said to be starring in a live-action “Transformers”/” G.I. Joe” crossover movie. But in an EW interview from this week, the actor quickly said the project was in “early creative discussions and nothing’s official,” also suggesting he didn’t know what it would be.

“I don’t know yet,” Hemsworth admitted about whether he’s starring in that movie. “I keep getting asked about that. [Producer] Lorenzo [di Bonaventura] had brought it up when I was recording this film … and we started talking about where the universe could expand and how fun it could be. And look, I’m just down for great filmmakers, great scripts, great stories. There’s a lot of potential in this universe, in both the ‘G.I. Joe’ world and the ‘Transformers world,’ to recreate, try something different.”

Hemsworth added that he wasn’t even sure what potential role he would play, given he’s already voicing Prime in ‘Transformers One.’

“I’m not even sure,” he said about the potential role. “I was like, ‘Am I going to be, like, talking to myself? Am I still going to play Optimus Prime and then switch over to G.I. Joe? Do I get paid twice? What’s happening here? That’s the important question.”

Previously, di Bonaventura told EW earlier this week, “We’re introducing Joe characters into the world that we’re dealing with, on whatever our characters are gonna go do,” he explained. “We’re also not through with the Maximals, so I imagine in the next movie, we’ll have Maximals, Autobots, and Joes.”

Clearly, the producer has a plan, but it seems that Hemsworth himself hasn’t signed on to anything yet or had anything more than brief conversations about it.

As for rumors that a “Thor 5 could potentially be announced at Comic-Con this weekend, Hemsworth suggested that’s likely not happening as he hasn’t heard from Marvel about any plans.

“I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe, and if there’s more to come, then I’m excited about it. Nothing official yet,” Hemsworth told Comic Book.com, echoing similar comments about the ‘Joe’/Transformers’ ideas. “I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and, and waiting for the news to see, let’s see what happens. But, you know, I love it.”

“Thor 5” seems like it will eventually arrive, but it looks like Marvel hasn’t really come up with much of a plan yet. File both under maybes for now.
