Got a Tip?

Chris Hemsworth Says Thor Has “Become More Me Over The Years” As He Talks The Character’s MCU Evolution

Thor: Love & Thunder” breaks new ground for Marvel Studios. After more than two dozen films and TV projects, the latest ‘Thor’ film is the first time in the history of the MCU that a character has had four solo films. This is really surprising when you think back to 2011, when “Thor” was first released and folks were concerned the character would never become popular. Alas, more than a decade later, Thor and Chris Hemsworth, who plays the character, are bigger than ever (quite literally, as well as figuratively). And Hemsworth thinks part of the joy of seeing a fourth “Thor” film is seeing just how that character has evolved.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Chris Hemsworth talked about the evolution of Thor over the years and how the character has started to meld a bit more with the actor holding the hammer.

“And that’s what’s been kind of fun is as the character’s evolved and I’ve had different opinions, I’ve sort of melded and crossed paths and so on,” said Hemsworth. “You know, the origin story is, I think not the easiest but it’s the most obvious one. And there’s a sort of set of rules and guidelines I feel like you have to sort of stick to and it works, and it’s familiar and relatable for people.”

He continued, “After that, the challenge is how do you recreate the character? What can you do different each time? And that’s been the luxury is working with different directors and different cast, and they all bring out something very different in you. As Taika said, I feel like the character’s probably become more me over the years in, I hope, a fun way. [Laughs]”

Moving onto other Marvel topics at the press conference, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was asked if fans should expect big news at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con? Feige wasn’t going to divulge any secrets, but he definitely made it seem like there will be plenty of things to discuss in Hall H next month.

“Yes, you can,” teased Feige. “Yeah, we’ll be at Comic-Con next month, which we’re excited about. First time since we were on stage there three years ago talking about this movie and many others. And now I think almost… not everything, but almost everything we discussed three years ago has now been released.  So yes, we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”

With Marvel Studios fully invested in both TV and film nowadays, the number of projects has grown quite a bit. We already know most of what is probably going to be released in 2023 and 2024, but after the next few films and TV shows, the details are more scarce. Perhaps, Feige and Co. will unveil some news about those distant projects like “Blade,” “Fantastic Four,” and “Deadpool 3?” More likely, we’ll get first looks at those films and TV shows coming sooner, such as “She-Hulk” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

But before you can see any of those, you can watch “Thor: Love & Thunder” in theaters on July 8.
