Got a Tip?

Chris O’Dowd Reveals He Has Role In ‘Thor: The Dark World’

nullChris O’Dowd is having a moment. He first turned heads in the British sitcom “The IT Crowd,” and since his turn as Kristen Wiig’s love interest in the breakout hit “Bridesmaids,” he’s racked up roles in two more Judd Apatow projects: Lena Dunham’s HBO series “Girls” and Apatow’s own directorial effort “This Is 40.” Now, it looks the comedy world isn’t enough for O’Dowd as he’s revealed that he has a role in a major blockbuster this year.

In an interview with Indiewire, the actor talked about possibly breaking out of the comedy world and into “more dramatic stuff.” Now, as part of his effort to branch out, O’Dowd will make a cameo appearance in “Thor: The Dark World.” “Actually, you know what I’ve done, just for fun because I didn’t think there was any way that I could be in a superhero movie, so I’ve done a scene in the new ‘Thor‘ movie, just for that. I just do like one scene, which was quite fun,” he revealed.

His appearance is apparently limited to one scene which, according to a tweet from O’Dowd last November (via ComicBookMovie), may be “a date scene with Natalie Portman” that we presume will be more comedic than dramatic, maintaining the same light tone the first “Thor” film had. Just based on his work as Thomas-John in “Girls,” we have no doubt that O’Dowd can bring the funny in awkward dinner/date scenes. If you need a reminder, look no further than his first encounter with Jessa and Marnie and his ruined expensive rug.

While you’ll have to wait for the fall to see O’Dowd’s scene in “Thor: The Dark World,” it hits theatres November 8th, you can next see the Irish actor on the small screen on Christopher Guest’s new series “Family Tree” when it premieres on HBO in May. Check out the trailer here.
