The evolution of Chris Weitz has been interesting to watch. He started off directing broad comedies with his brother Paul Weitz, with fare like "American Pie," "Down To Earth," and "About A Boy." Then he went solo on two blockbusters, "The Golden Compass" and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," before switching gears again, and making the intimate drama "A Better Life." Now, he’s tackling a story which marks another intriguing change of pace for the filmmaker.
Deadline reports that Weitz will direct a movie about the hunt for famed Nazi Adolph Eichmann. Matthew Orton has penned the script that tells the story of the man who organized the transport of Jews to concentration traps, fled to Argentina after the war, and was the target of a manhunt by Mossad and Shin Bet agents, who tracked him down, and brought him to justice.
The thriller is said to be in the vein of "Argo," and the project is set up over at MGM. No word yet on an exact start date, but apparently the gears are in motion to get this one in front of cameras fast. Meanwhile, Weitz’s next bit of work to hit the big screen will be his contribution as screenwriter for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
