Writer Christina Hodson Gives An Update On 'Batgirl' & Says 'Birds Of Prey' Will Have A "Whole Bunch" Of Surprises

Coming into 2018, the name Christina Hodson probably didn’t register to many film fans. Now, as we go into 2019, the writer is one of the biggest names in fandom, as her “Bumblebee” is earning rave reviews and she’s signed to write “Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn),” which goes before cameras soon and the upcoming “Batgirl.”

Needless to say, if you’re a fan of DC heroes and quality films, Hodson is a name to keep an eye on. And in a new interview with CBM, she goes over her two big films coming soon, the aforementioned ‘Birds of Prey’ and “Batgirl.” And in regards to the former, she promises that the Margot Robbie-starring film is going to be full of surprises.

“Our [‘Birds of Prey’] cast is awesome,” said Hodson. “Most of it has leaked, so you already know who’s playing who. I’m super excited about the cast, about the characters. And it’s really fun and different and honestly, I think aside from the fact that, obviously, the studio would like me to not say anything, I think it’s fun not to say anything yet because that means there’s going to be whole bunch of fun little surprises for fans and for new people to the DC universe to discover.”

The writer also provided a brief update on “Batgirl,” the spin-off film that was originally set for Joss Whedon to write and direct before he departed. Specifically, Hodson was asked if she thinks that Hailee Steinfeld, the star of the writer’s latest project “Bumblebee,” would be great in the title role.

Hodson answers, “Again, above my paygrade. *laughs* Not something I can speak to. But, yeah, I’m loving writing it, I can say that, it’s a total joy to work on. I love the character. And everyday I’m finding new things to love and get excited about.”

If “Bumblebee” is any indication, it looks like Warner Bros. is lucky to have Hodson on board to script two of their biggest upcoming films. It’s odd to say, considering we’re talking about the DCEU, but the writer’s involvement has us hyped for at least two of the studio’s upcoming films.
