With Mads Mikkelsen not being able to step into the villain role in "Thor: The Dark World" due to scheduling issues with the upcoming NBC show "Hannibal," the part remained open, and surprisingly there wasn't the usual run of rumored names and wishlists. Instead, Marvel has just gone ahead and cast somebody.
And that somebody is Christopher Eccleston ("Dr. Who," "28 Days Later," "Shallow Grave"), who will play Malekith The Accursed in the upcoming film. As has been surmised by nerds for a while now, and given away by the title of the movie more or less, Malekith is a Dark Elf whose people fell at the hands of the Forest Giants. Able to dance between the worlds of the living and the dead, it's probably a safe bet that dude will use his Casket of Ancient Winters to try and raise an army of the dead on Earth, but Thor will have to step in to stop him and save his girl, Natalie Portman. Or something.
Anyway, still lots of time for more details to emerge. "Thor: The Dark World" will hit theaters on Novemer 8, 2013. Alan Taylor of "Game Of Thrones" fame is directing. [Deadline]
