Since the superhero found-footage film “Chronicle” became a sleeper hit in 2012, director Josh Trank has moved on to the “Fantastic Four” reboot bringing along Michael B. Jordan, and writer Max Landis was dumped by the studio as a result of creative differences, leaving the planned sequel in a stalled state. Now, after nine months, Fox has finally found their new writer.
Deadline reports complete unknown — he has zero produced credits to his name—Jack Stanley to pen the sequel. Stanley caught the attention of the studio after the one-two punch of the specs “Sweetheart”—akin to a female-led version of “Grosse Pointe Blank”—and the werewolf-thriller “Silver.”
Although it’s still much too early for the sequel’s plot to be known, Stanley’s take will likely be less ambitious than Landis’ rejected draft if John Landis’ comments last year are to believed. With the original film budgeted at $12 million and box office haul of $126 million, you better believe Fox will want to move fast (and cheaply) on the sequel.
