Colin Farrell To Star In New A24 Sci-Fi Drama 'After Yang' From Filmmaker Kogonada

Colin Farrell is an interesting actor to discuss. It’s impossible to say with any confidence just exactly he chooses his roles. There’s no question the actor is talented, but his IMDB is just all over the place. There are clear highlights, such as “In Bruges,” “Minority Report,” and recent films like “Widows,” “The Lobster,” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.” But those are offset by “Daredevil,” “Fright Night,” “Total Recall,” and “Winter’s Tale.” So, basically, when Farrell is good, he’s really good. But when he’s bad…oof. Hopefully, he brings his A-game to his next role because he’s teaming up with one of our favorite up-and-coming filmmakers.

According to Deadline, Farrell has signed on to star in the upcoming film “After Yang,” which will be written and directed by director Kogonada. The film is based on the short story from author Alexander Weinstein titled “Saying Goodbye to Yang,” and will tell the story of a father and daughter who attempt to save the life of their robotic family member. This sounds like the type of strange, unique film that Farrell thrives in.

For those not familiar with Kogonada, he is the writer and director of the 2017 film “Columbus,” which starred John Cho (who is always good, for the record). That film served as the feature-length directorial debut for the filmmaker and found its way to multiple Gotham and Indie Spirit nominations, as well as a ton of critics top 10 lists. So, if you somehow missed that film when it was originally released, you’re going to want to check it out ASAP (it should still be available on Hulu, fyi).

And for those that put a lot of stock in the production company and distributor behind a film, you’ll be pleased to note that A24 will be the company behind “After Yang.” With A24’s string of recent successes, creatively at least, it would appear that Kogonada is in good hands.

Have we made it abundantly clear that we are excited for this film? Because trust us, we are.
