'Come Away' Trailer: David Oyelowo & Angelina Jolie Star In This Fantasy Film From The Director Of 'Brave'

Within 10 seconds of the trailer for “Come Away,” you can tell the film is full of magic. And that means literally full of magic, as the film tells the story of two young children, Alice and Peter, who experience life in much the same way as their fairy tale namesakes. However, the film is far from a lighthearted experience, as there are plenty of real-world issues worrying the young children.

As seen in the trailer, “Come Away” follows Alice and Peter as they let their imaginations run wild and experience sword fights, magical tea parties, and pirate ship battles. But they’re also using their imagination to escape the very real worries about the health of their parents (David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie) and being taken away by an evil woman.

In addition to Oyelowo and Jolie, the film stars Anna Chancellor, Clarke Peters, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Caine, David Gyasi, Reece Yates, Jordan A. Nash, and Keira Chansa. The film comes from director Brenda Chapman, who is probably best known for her work on the hit animated film, “Brave,” which earned her the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. She also became the first woman to direct an animated feature for a major studio when she helmed “The Prince of Egypt” back in 1998.

“Come Away” is set to arrive in theaters and VOD on November 13. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

In this imaginative origin story of two of the most beloved characters in literature – Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland – eight-year-old Alice (Keira Chansa), her mischievous brother Peter (Jordan A. Nash) and their brilliant older sibling David (Reece Yates) let their imaginations run wild one blissful summer in the English countryside. Encouraged by their parents Jack and Rose (David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie), the kids’ make-believe tea parties, sword fights and pirate ship adventures come to an abrupt end when tragedy strikes. Peter, eager to prove himself a hero to his grief-stricken and financially-struggling parents, journeys with Alice to London, where they try to sell a treasured heirloom to the sinister pawnshop owner known as C.J. (David Gyasi). Returning home, Alice seeks temporary refuge in a wondrous rabbit hole while Peter permanently escapes reality by entering a magical realm as leader of the “Lost Boys.”
