Comic Con Posters Arrive For 'Captain America: The First Avenger' & 'Thor'

Bear in mind, the finished films will look nothing like these posters, but that being said, the first one sheets for Marvel’s upcoming “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” are some pretty stunning pieces of work.

The ‘Captain America’ poster, illustrated by Ryan Meinerding, shows Steve Rogers on a bombed out WWII battlefield deflecting bullets with his shield, wielding a handgun and looking a bit more rugged in those jeans than early concept art suggested. Yeah, Joe Johnston’s film probably won’t be anything close to being that gritty but hell, that would look nice framed on a wall. Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving , Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan, Neal McDonagh, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones star in the Marvel movie which is currently filming.

As for the “Thor” artwork, we wish we could make out the artist’s name (please, someone fill us in) but it’s slightly less exciting, showing Thor and Loki battling it out on some kind of comet or something. Though we have to say, it looks a helluva lot better than the first official stills that have been released. The Kenneth Branagh-directed film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Adriana Barraza and is currently in post-production.

Both films will hit theaters next year, with “Thor” arriving first on May 6, 2011 and “Captain America: The First Avenger” arriving a couple months later on July 22, 2011.
