Oscar voting is less than a month away and one category that has pundits scratching their heads (or wigs, mind you) is Makeup and Hairstyling. Two of those nominees, “Cruella” and “Coming 2 America,” should get voters attention as they each did quite well at the 2022 Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylist Guild Awards on Saturday night. In fact, the latter took a staggering three trophies including Best Contemporary Make-Up, Best Special Effects Make-Up and Best Contemporary Hairstyling.
“Cruella” took Best Period and/or Character Make-Up while “Being the Ricardos,” which didn’t make the Oscars cut, won Best Period Hair Styling and/or Character Hair Styling.
On the television side, “Saturday Night Live” won three honors including Best Contemporary Make-Up for a Television Special, One Hour or More Live Program or Movie for Television. “Legendary,” “Emily in Paris,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Genius: Aretha” and “American Horror Stories” each took one each.” Both “Pose,” “Danger Zone” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” won two statues, respectfully.
