'The Confession Killer' Trailer: Your Next True Crime Obsession Follows The Shocking Story Of Henry Lee Lucas

Netflix is back with its newest offering to feed the national serial killer documentary obsession. But we’re getting a new spin on the increasingly popular genre — is the man at the center of the story a killing machine or a liar? The docuseries is “The Confession Killer,” directed by Oscar nominee Robert Kenner and Taki Oldham. It tackles the story of Henry Lee Lucas, a man who confessed to around 600 murders. That many murders would make him one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Kenner and Oldham examine how Lucas was able to discuss each murder victim in shockingly exact detail, with no direct pieces of evidence linking him to the crimes.

Kenner is no stranger to investigative documentaries. His 2008 Oscar and Emmy-nominated documentary “Food Inc.” took a hard look at how corporations have overtaken America’s agribusiness. “Merchants of Doubt,” his 2014 documentary, reveals how a small group of scientists with political ties presented the public with misinformation about tobacco and climate control. And with “The Confession Killer,” not only does he cover the story of Lucas, but he and Oldham come from the angle of exposing flaws in the U.S. justice system.

Check out the official synopsis of “The Confession Killer” below:

During the early ’80s, Henry Lee Lucas confessed to hundreds of murders, bringing closure to unsolved cases and grieving families. Even with no direct evidence linking Lucas to the crime scenes, he stunned authorities with his ability to sketch victims’ portraits while citing brutal details of each attack. Yet journalists and attorneys found impossibilities in Lucas’ timeline, and DNA testing started to contradict his internationally-reported claims. “The Confession Killer,” a riveting five-part docuseries, explores how the man once called America’s most prolific serial killer was really a complex figure entangled with a flawed justice system.

All five episodes of “The Confession Killer” drop on Netflix December 6. Take a look at the newest trailer below and get ready to binge.
