After the apparent success of Hulu’s recent drama series, “Normal People,” based on the best-selling novel by Sally Rooney, it appears the streaming service is ready to move ahead with yet another adaptation of the author’s work with the development of a new show titled “Conversations with Friends.”
According to Hulu, the streaming service has begun work on developing “Conversations with Friends” with the same production team, Element Pictures, behind the aforementioned “Normal People.” And just to keep the “Normal People” magic alive, it appears that Hulu is bringing back filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson to serve as lead director on the new series along with Alice Birch, who will serve as lead writer.
“Conversations with Friends” is Rooney’s debut novel and tells the story of two college students that develop a sexually-charged relationship with an older married couple. Yes, it appears that the streamy nature of “Normal People” (which inspired some unwanted love from porn websites) will be included in “Conversations with Friends” as well.
“We loved working with Hulu on ‘Normal People’ – they are an inspiring and very talented team and all of us at Element are delighted to be partnering with them again, alongside our friends at the BBC, on the screen adaptation of Sally Rooney’s incredible first novel, ‘Conversations with Friends,’” said Executive Producer, Ed Guiney.

It’s unclear when the new series might debut on Hulu, but clearly the streaming service is anxious to get the ball rolling on another Sally Rooney adaptation.
