Cool: Paul Feig Wrote One Of The High School Scenes For 'The Amazing Spider-Man'

nullOne of this writer's annual traditions is to take some time out to watch the first, and sadly only, season of "Freaks & Geeks." As fans of the short-lived program know, it was an early stomping ground for the talents of Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, a place where their innate talent to zero in on the truth of the high school experience — in all its hilarious awkwardness — and relationships between men and women, first came into full bloom. Of course both have since gone on to bigger things, but it looks like Feig has returned to the hallowed halls once more to punch up one of the biggest comic movies of the year.

Vulture caught up with Feig recently, and when asking him about which summer movie he's looking forward to, he dropped an interesting little nugget. "I'm looking forward to 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' " he said. "He's a great guy, he invited me on set, and I did a little bit of writing for that movie, for one of the high school scenes, so I'm excited."

While we haven't really been excited for 'Spider-Man,' mostly because we feel we've seen this all before, we have to remember that unlike Sam Raimi's films, this one is set while Peter Parker is still young enough to worry about algebra tests, so that will certainly add a different element to the proceedings. And if Feig, who is apparently good friends with director Marc Webb, can infuse at least one of the scenes with his realistic take on how teens interact, it could be a (momentary) breath of fresh air. Here's hoping Harris makes a cameo….

"The Amazing Spider-Man" opens on July 3rd.
