While actors David Tennant and Hayley Atwell grew enormous fanbases from their work on series like “Doctor Who” and “Agent Carter,” its some of their more serious work that tends to go unsung. Tennant, for instance, leads the series “Broadchurch” alongside “The Favourite” Oscar winner Olivia Colman. Now, it appears, Tennant is returning to those criminal instincts and taking Atwell with him. But this time, these once crusaders of justice appear to be on the other side of the table.
In the endless Rolodex of Netflix content, a new series will make its addition in the coming months. “Criminal” is a 12-episode series that chronicles four different stories and countries all in the confines of a police interrogation suite. The series is created by Jim Field Smith, most notable for his work as the director for the ITV series, “Endeavor.” Smith will also serve as a writer for the series, with Tennant and Atwell being the greatest draw for prospective audience.

As the series takes place in various countries, the episodes will use the native vernacular for each episode, with writers home to the countries taking on the bulk of the show’s writing. What’s more, stars native to France, Spain, and Germany will lead those episodes, as Tennant and Atwell are the draws for UK audiences and a handful of Americans.
Here’s the trailer and official synopsis:
This revolutionary procedural comprises 12 unique stories set in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK. It takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite. This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects.
