If there was one element to add to the “Daddy’s Home” sequel to make even more unbearable than it already was in the first place, I’d have to imagine that bringing Mel Gibson into the mix would be at least in the top ten. Continuing where the original left off with the two characters at peace, things are quickly upended with the arrival of both their fathers — Gibson and John Lithgow — and tension rises again. I’m not quite sure just who was clamoring for “Daddy’s Home 2,” a sequel to a film that got unfavorable reviews, to put it nicely. Such is the nature of Hollywood these days however where just about any movie can and will get the opportunity to be turned into a franchise, no matter the overall quality. Raking in $242 million worldwide at the box office, the under-performance of the critical reaction was proven to be less effective than the numbers.
Also starring Linda Cardellini and John Cena, directed by Sean Anders and written by Anders and John Morris, “Daddy’s Home 2” opens on November 10th.
